About Me


Dr. Cicely Wilson is the Coordinator of Assessment and Accreditation at Baptist Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Memphis, TN. After more than two decades in the classroom as an Associate Professor of Communication, Dr. Wilson transitioned to her new role, where she oversees the institution’s accreditation processes and develops strategies for assessing academic programs, ensuring quality and continuous improvement.

Dr. Wilson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Philander Smith College (now Philander Smith University), a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Rhetoric from Kansas State University, a Master of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Communication Studies from The University of Memphis.

Alongside her work in assessment and accreditation, Dr. Wilson continues to offer her expertise as an instructional designer, assisting faculty in creating and refining online courses. She also leads workshops focused on e-learning and the needs of adult learners. Her research interests have long centered on social justice, particularly addressing the representation of students and faculty of color within the field of communication. Dr. Wilson co-authored the award-winning article “Virtual Invisibility: Race and Communication Education” and its follow-up, “Still Passed Over: Race and the Forgotten Professors and Students of Color.” In 2022, she co-authored “Less Talk, More Action: Moving Communication Education Toward Racial Justice,” published in Communication Education. Dr. Wilson recently published “Ascending, summiting, and descending: The academic career mountain of senior faculty members at postsecondary U.S. institutions” in Professional Psychology: Research and Practice.
